DAY EIGHT: Unwrap Your Gift

WEEK THREE LET EARTH RECEIVE HER KING

DAY EIGHT:  UNWRAP YOUR GIFT

I have a gift for you, He says. A gift unlike anything you could ever buy in a store; a gift people have sought after for centuries.

It’s yours.

It’s there, every Christmas. So many times you haven’t seen it. It goes unnoticed amongst the shiny bows and boxes of every size.

The world easily drowns out the simplicity this gift offers.

See it there,

with your name on the tag.

It is, at times, refused.

It goes unwrapped but unreceived.

It goes against the grain of a day fraught with tasks that release a small bit of adrenaline as one box is crossed off on your checklist; every minute accounted for.

Choose it;

the gift was left for you by a king.

It is often forgotten.

You’ve unwrapped it. You’ve chosen it. You treasure it.

You keep it with you because you know what a good gift it is and how much you desire it,

but it gets buried under a pile of laundry, a stack of paperwork, or a heap of troubles.

The competition for your attention is fierce.

Keep it close;

guard it from defeating thoughts that feed on fear and discontentment.

This gift is peace.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

John 14:27 NLT

Jesus left us with a gift that is just so like Him.

It doesn’t make sense.

Not much of our amazing Savior makes a whole lot of sense in this busy, and distracted world.

Exuding peace in a world of discontentment doesn’t fit either.

This world craves peace but it doesn’t understand. More bows, more elaborate packaging, more covering and fixing up.

Bring them His simple gift of peace.

For God SO loved this world.

He SO loved this world, He didn’t want them to go through life with troubled hearts; lonely and afraid.

He brought a small, sweet baby to tell a world that was looking for a fight that He brings peace instead.

His peace that doesn’t make sense.

His peace for you to

  • unwrap
  • receive
  • guard
  • regift

“Life with God is not immunity from difficulties, but peace within difficulties.”

– C.S. Lewis
